Full game rules:

Sink or Swim plays by the rules of Farkle, a game of chance in which players take turns rolling the dice and collecting points from combos. Starting with 6 dice, the player rolls, then picks dice to keep. The player must choose at least one die to keep after every roll; if a roll resulted in no valid scoring dice, the player has ‘Farkled’, and they must forfeit their earnings and end their turn. Otherwise, they then choose to either roll again with the remaining dice, or, to avoid a regrettable fate, stay their turn and keep their earnings. Importantly, in order to stay, a player must have at least 500 points – either on the board or accumulated that turn. After their turn, the next player, if they are on the board themselves, may choose to ‘piggyback’, starting their turn with as many di(c)e as the previous player had left when they ended their turn, but with all of the accumulated points of their turn. Such a maneuver can be very risky but can also have a great pay-off!

The first player to pass the 10,000 point threshold triggers the endgame, one final round in which the other players get a chance to surpass the leader and claim victory!

Why Sink or Swim?

Sink or Swim is really just an adaptation of Farkle. So why the name Sink or Swim? Simply put, when I named the game, I wasn't sure if Farkle was a copyrighted name. Turns out it's not! I decided to stick with Sink or Swim because it feels precarious, just like when you've got one dice left and you're deciding whether to roll again. I also like the underwater aesthetic that the title inspired.
